Secondary inspection refers to an independent inspection layer designed to detect defects that escape primary, in-process inspection systems.
In solid oral dose manufacturing, primary inspection systems are validated to detect known defect classes at fixed points in the process. Secondary inspection adds visibility without intervening in validated process control.
This concept is emerging in response to persistent inspection escapes, recalls, and defects discovered after release.
